What types of mesh are these good for?
In general, these work well on most of the perforated meshes as well as most of the meshes that are expanded metal. Aluminum based woven wire meshes can be bent with these too, but the stainless woven meshes are a bit too tough for hand tools.
One or both of the heads have a slight arch to them, is that normal?
Yes, by design these have a slight arch to the head of the clamp.
